Dr. Ken Nyaundi

An advocate with nearly 20 years of experience, Dr. Ken, is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of IRPA. Ken is an experienced lawyer having qualified as an advocate in 1991, and has established himself as a leading advocate in commercial, corporate, civil litigation, land, property and conveyance and public law, particularly international human rights and constitutional issues. As a proficient draftsman, he continues to contribute to legislation on the media, information technology, wildlife and conservation, and devolution, and has been named to serve on a number of government task forces.

He is an expert in issues of Alternative Dispute Resolution, serving as a member of the Chief Justice’s Mediation Accreditation Committee and a Director at a leading arbitration center in South Africa. In 2013, he was appointed to be a Member of the National Land Commission’s Task Force on Historical Land Injustices. In 2009 he was appointed as a Commissioner with the Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) where he oversaw the commission’s legal affairs, playing a vital role in the creation of Kenya’s present electoral laws. He was also appointed by the Law Society of Kenya to audit the results of Kenya’s 2013 election results. Dr. Nyaundi currently serves as a Member of the South-South Centre tasked with coordinating the sharing of resources amongst developing nations. He has served as Chairman of Kituo Cha Sheria and the International Commission of Jurists, Kenya Chapter (ICJ-K), two leading civil society actors in the access to justice and rule of law spheres. Dr. Nyaundi is currently the Chancellor of Laikipia University and its Council’s Chairman. 

Dr. Nyaundi holds a PhD in International Law (2014) and a Master of Laws in Public International Law (2005), both from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He earned his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi (1990) and Diploma in Legal Practice from the Kenya School of Law (1990).
